***National Assembly Status***
NAfME is continuing to monitor the health updates, guidance and travel information provided by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO) and the DC Health Department on Coronavirus to ensure we are taking all recommended precautions for the upcoming NAfME National Leadership Assembly at the Washington Hilton in June. At this time, no state or federal restrictions are in place to prevent meetings and travel within the United States for the dates of our meeting. Based on today’s information, NAfME plans to host the NAfME National Leadership Assembly as scheduled in Washington, DC. However, the situation surrounding the virus is very dynamic and as more certainty emerges the NAfME National Executive Board may reconsider that decision. With the situation evolving rapidly, NAfME will continue to engage health and security authorities on any planned or anticipated measures that may impact travel and our ability to host the upcoming National Leadership Assembly. Any and all updates will be posted on this page and shared widely with NAfME’s volunteer leadership.
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of your National Executive Board leadership team, it is our pleasure to formally invite you to register for the 2020 NAfME National Leadership Assembly.
We are planning an exciting meeting with significant time for your input on a variety of important Association topics of interest. This year’s Assembly will once again feature discussions by division, discussions by size of state, convenings of state Executives and Editors, and breakouts on the topics that drive our success. This year, we will also have a meeting of those members of our Advocacy Leadership Force, consisting of leaders in advocacy from our state MEAs, who are able to attend. Finally, we will have two things of special importance this year:
- The beginning of the process to reimagine our Strategic Plan.
- Continuing discussion of our work on Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Access.
Each of us will have the opportunity to bring the music education advocacy message directly to congressional leaders during NAfME Hill Day 2020. This year, advocacy activities will take place on Thursday, June 25, when delegates from state MEAs, representatives of the Music Education Policy Roundtable, and Collegiate members from across the country will visit Capitol Hill to advocate in support of music education. Please note that state leaders should designate an individual responsible for the scheduling of all Hill meetings by selecting “State Captain” during the registration process.
As in previous years, all National Assembly registrations will be handled through our online portal. Please take a few minutes to complete the registration process. You can do so here.
This year we will be back at the Washington Hilton, 1919 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC, 20009. Click here to make hotel reservations. Remember that June 1, 2020, is the deadline to receive the group rate. Reservations must be made prior to that date.
We look forward to your attendance at the 2020 NAfME National Assembly!
