Lake Braddock Chamber Orchestra

Lake Braddock Secondary School

Burke, VA

Directed by: Clayton Allen

The Lake Braddock Orchestra Program has a long tradition of excellence. The program consists of 330 students with a total of ten orchestras, five of those being high school orchestras, and five middle school orchestras. The Middle School Chamber Orchestra is the premier auditioned ensemble in the nearly 200 student middle school program and has earned all superior ratings performing VBODA grade level V repertoire over the past fourteen years at state assessment. Students learn a variety of ensemble, musicianship, and personal performance skills in this course while focusing on musical interpretation and expressive performance. This orchestra provides students with a fast paced and hardworking atmosphere that prepares them for further study of advanced repertoire in their high school years. It is the goal of the music department to send each student from the program with the skills and love of music that will encourage continued participation in music related activities long after middle and high school. In this effort we are greatly assisted by our fine elementary staff, who send us students that are not only well prepared but who also love to make music, and by supportive administrative staff and parents.

Hawktet

Lincoln Southwest High School

Lincoln, NE

Directed by: Dr. Marci Malone DeAmbrose

For over twenty years, Lincoln Southwest High School (LSW) choral groups have provided meaningful group singing experiences to students and communities locally, nationally, and internationally. Our music program serves over 300 students every year. Due to block scheduling and a collaborative music department, students at LSW are able to be involved in multiple vocal and instrumental ensembles. Hawktet is one small ensemble option for students. Comprised of LSW finest singers, this ensemble is completely student-led. Those who are selected to participate in this ensemble program a capella choral literature, schedule performances, and organize auditions for future members. Students in this ensemble have been invited to perform in many local events including performing the National Anthem at the State Football Championship at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, NE. In addition to performance, outreach is also of great importance to Hawktet. To help bridge the gap between middle school and high school music making, Hawktet has visited several local schools with the hope that their love of group singing will help retain young singers during this unprecedented time.
