Colorado

Colorado is piloting the State Model Evaluation System.  More information is available at http://www.cde.state.co.us/EducatorEffectiveness/StateModelEvaluationSystem.asp, including an extensive teacher evaluation rubric. Since Colorado is a “local control” state, anything that the state puts out is left up to local interpretation. The local school district typically has to meet or exceed the standards set by the state. In June of 2013, the Colorado Music Educators Association released a Position Statement on Student Growth and Educator Effectiveness.    From a music teacher in Denver: Denver Public Schools are currently piloting the LEAP system.  More information is available at Leap.dpsk12.org. All specials teachers are required to follow the criteria for evaluation. Our pilot program ends this year and full official evaluations will be implemented next year. Fitting music in the classroom criteria has been a challenge.
