North Carolina

Evaluation standards for teachers:

  1. Teachers demonstrate leadership.
  2. Teachers establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students.
  3. Teachers know the content they teach.
  4. Teachers facilitate learning for their students.
  5. Teachers reflect on their practice.

Beginning in 2011 – 2012, a sixth standard for teachers will evaluate the extent to which they affect student growth. In order to evaluate student growth (standard #6), North Carolina is implementing MSLs (Measures of Student Learning) or Common Exams in all content areas.  Currently, they do not have an MSL in place for the Arts.
