Call for Nominations: Journal of General Music Education (JGME)

One Editorial Committee Member and Two Columnists

Journal of General Music Education coverNAfME’s Journal of General Music Education (JGME) is a peer-reviewed online journal that publishes practitioner-focused articles that describe successful practices, share teaching strategies and/or materials, suggest new ideas, or analyze issues of concern to professionals exploring the influence and impact of general music education across the lifespan. JGME’s focus includes articles and columns on gender inclusivity, culturally responsive pedagogy, social-emotional learning, technology, aligning with standards, multilingual teaching, and other contemporary areas of inquiry.

Request for Applications for One Member of the JGME Editorial Committee (2025–2030)

NAfME’s Journal of General Music Education is seeking nominations for one member of the editorial committee. The member of the editorial committee will begin duties on April 1, 2025, and continue through June 30, 2030.

Qualifications

  • Be a professional educator at the PreK–12 level or in higher education who is committed to excellence in the teaching and scholarship of general music at any level of instruction across the lifespan.
  • Have expertise in editing and reviewing academic articles/papers and be able to commit the necessary time to carry out the duties of the position—including reviewing 2 to 4 articles per publication cycle (every three months).
  • Have research/articles/columns published in peer-reviewed journals of the same scope and level as JGME.

Application

  • Provide a letter indicating your interest in the position, including a statement that you can fulfill the duties required of the position.
  • Provide a CV that characterizes your qualifications for the position.
  • Obtain three letters of support—sent directly to Kendra Kay Friar, the current JGME Academic Editor—from nationally recognized individuals, colleagues, or mentors in music education, early childhood education, or teacher education.

Open Call for Two JGME Columnists (2025–2030)

JGME is seeking nominations for columnists. The columnists will begin duties on April 1, 2025, and continue through June 30, 2030. Candidates for the position are invited to submit their desired column topics.

Qualifications

  • Be a professional educator at the PreK–12 level or in higher education who is committed to excellence in the teaching and scholarship of general music at any level of instruction across the lifespan, evidenced by active participation in the field of music education.
  • Have the expertise and be able to commit the necessary time to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrate the ability to craft research/articles/columns of the same scope and level currently offered by JGME.

Application

  • Provide a letter indicating your interest in the position including a statement that you can fulfill the duties required.
  • Provide a CV or resume that characterizes your qualifications for the position.

The main responsibilities for a columnist include meeting the required SAGE deadlines for each of the three issues in the volume, securing all copyrights as applicable (photographs, book covers, video clips, etc.), and securing a “guest author” if you are unable to submit your column. If you accept the position, your first column would be due on or before June 1, 2025.
