My state, CT, just recently adopted the standards, but my previous urban district adopted them immediately once they came out. We were given several workshops about the standards in which we analyzed the new standards and discussed activities which would connect to given strands. My current district -another urban district 🙂 – is using the new standards to write a curriculum. This summer a bunch of us in the Music department (and members of each other academic department) are beginning this process.
I personally have gotten a lot of lesson ideas as I read through them- ways I could expand on activities I already do which would include more grade-level-appropriate analytical discussions. I think they are raising the bar for what we do and what we expect of our students.
