Can you use folk songs during class? Usually these songs are shorter, and I like to add lots of active beat motions and words to listen for when I’m teaching a song. How are you teaching the song? I usually will have the students listen to me sing a song at least 5-6 times before they attempt to sing it (again, keep them active so they’re not just sitting and listening). You also might try getting them to chant the words, like a rhyme, having a game to go with it (and they can’t play the game until the song is solid), picking an easy section of the song to play on mallet instruments, etc. Just some ideas to help.
