I also have a couple of students who were not succeeding on trumpet who are doing much better with euphonium. Neither are likely to be music majors and I tried, briefly, to switch them to bass clef, but they were too frustrated by that. I gave up and have let them stick with treble clef parts. They are happier and they are still in band. I think I would have lost them had I forced them to play bass clef. What is our program about, anyway? Developing future music majors, or teaching students to love and appreciate music for life. I choose the latter, and on rare occasion, I get to do the former as well. 😀
