Just wanted to take a moment to plug the upcoming NAfME national inservice, happening Nov. 10th-13th 2016, in lovely Grapevine, TX.
“But I can’t afford to go…”
Yep…. I can relate. Try these sources of funding ideas:
Your school’s site council, your district’s professional development funds, your school’s parent-teacher organization, grant-funding, community organizations that you might be involved with (or who ‘owe ya one’).
Other ideas to save a buck: early bird registration, rooming with a friend, alternated sources of housing (i.e.: airbnb, or friends/family members who live nearby), save money on food by asking for a fridge and microwave (then hit the grocery store when you arrive).
Lastly, be sure to ask your tax advisor, but I’m pretty sure that most “job related” food, housing, travel and expenses might be able to be written off on your taxes! Save ALL of your receipts. If you drive to the event, also add up your gas and mileage to/from.
Now, I’ve gotta take my own advice and see about escaping to TEXAS for some great learning!
Thanks to NAfME for always putting on such a great experience for us old dogs!
