I would like to do a solo project with my 6th grade band students during our group lessons. I would like to give students a choice between two or three different solos and then have them learn about the piece (vocab terms and history) and then perform their solo during a special ‘solo night’ at school. Does anyone know of a good solo book for beginners that I could use across all instruments?

Check in their lesson book! I use Essential Elements 2000 and there are at least 3 solos in there with piano accompaniment. There are also a few duets worth performing and one or two songs that I add my own accompaniment to for the kids to perform. With more options in one book, you could have a range of difficulties/skills to challenge the students individually.

    Standard of Excellence Festival Solos

I use these with my 6th graders for solo/ensemble contest every year. Perfect for 1st or 2nd year players. Each instrument has its own book but they are written so they can be played at the same time.
