    Hello,

I am wanting to start having my high school band read on book each year regarding band. The would be doing some kind of written report at the end. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for any great books I should look into.

    Sincerely,

    Ryan Whipple

    Hi Ryan,

I would suggest “The Inner Game of Tennis” by W. Timothy Gallwey. It deals with the psychological aspect of performance, and though it uses sports to illustrate a lot of its points, I think it is also beneficial in tackling (no pun intended) some of the psychological aspects of performing music as well. It’s also a good read for teachers; it’s made me re-think some of my methods.

This link has an excerpt if you’d like to look at it: Inner Game of Tennis Excerpt

    Best,
    Jenna Alderman
