I’m in the second year of starting a brand new program at a small private school that goes from 4-12. In our second year we’re already exceeding 60 members in the middle and high school program but are still operating out of what amounts to a “portable building” (I’ve heard them called T-buildings) that amounts to a glorified trailer. We’re making it but already bursting at the seams since we can hardly store student and school instruments and cannot even rehearse with the middle school ensemble at once.

Does anyone have any suggestions about the first steps towards finding the funding for a band facility? Or what the ballpark cost would be for a solid new facility? While we’ve done exceedingly well with fundraising for instruments and equipment, I don’t really know where to start with something of this scale… I’m not entirely sure what “this scale” even is – $90K? $150K? $350K?

Any experience or tips are much appreciated!

Our school is starting to build a new choir/instrumental/drama facility with performance hall. We are in California… so, the facility will cost $5 million just for the walls. This does not include anything inside the facility like acoustic tiling, chairs, etc. Our school had to start a capitol campaign.
