I teach a high school (9-12) music appreciation class, and I am looking for documentaries to show them about the different musical time periods. It seems that everything I find online is “boring” and doesn’t do anything to keep their attention. Does anyone know of a DVD series I could buy or that is somewhere online? Maybe a documentary series about music history geared towards high school students? Thanks!
I have taught a music appreciation class at the local community college- using youtube has added a new dimension to the “boring” music appreciation course.
For example, I show a video of John Cage’s “Water Walk” to the class, and guide them in discerning whether the work is music or not. Check it out- I know you will find that work and others like it to engage your students’ attention and interest!
