My 6th grade guitar class got cut to only one day a week. I had them twice a week for 30 minutes in the previous years. Any suggestions on how to not reteach every week? I am sure they will forget most of what was taught…

That’s tough! I see my kids twice a week for 40 minutes, 32 kids at a time. I do see them once a week at times due to field trips, days off, etc.

What I do is break things down into 4 classes. Teach a concept, review it next time in class and offer homework if possible. Assess on the 4th day.

    Good luck!

If your students have guitars at home possibly you could set up a home practice schedule. How about an after school guitar club? You cannot accomplish very much very fast with the time constraint given to your guitar classes. Another thought is using the chord buddy http://chordbuddy.com/
It is an add-on system to a guitar where it basically turns your guitar into an autoharp. There are 4 buttons that when pressed will play a G C D and Em. Think of the number of tunes that can be played! I was skeptical but for non-musicians it gets them excited about playing music immediately.
