What phrase do you use to help kids learn the names of the open strings? I’ve used ‘Eddie Ate Dynamite, Good Bye Eddie,’ a colleague in another district uses ‘Every Acid Dealer Gets Busted Eventually’ and so on. Wouldn’t be unreasonable to have the kids do their own, I reckon. Maybe a contest and the winner gets a pick. . .
I use Elephants And Donkeys Grow Big Ears, but also give students the opportunity to make up their own. The reason I like the one I use is I relate the large size of an elephant to the large size of the low E string, which helps them remember which string to start the pattern on.
For my HS kids I’ve used “Elvis ate drugs good by Elvis.
