What composition have you discovered in the past twelve months that has influenced you the most? For me, it is Henri Dutilleux’s Correspondances for solo Soprano and Orchestra.

I find it difficult to narrow it down to one. The reason for that is my involvement in different areas of music.
I.E – when teaching alto sax lessons I am blown away by a Prez solo, when teaching chorus I tend to be influenced by what the chorus needs, when teaching the guitar class I am a youtuber who loves to pop on Segovia for some inspiration, and when teaching AP Music i love to play the opening of the 2nd Movement of Ludwig’s 7th…
When doing sound for a play, I am drawn to great Broadway music such as ‘Wicked’.
But then again, when trying to write a ‘popish’ song on my synths or guitar I listen to great singer/songwriters and try crafting lyrics. Nashville attitude needed here.
However, when trying to compose Soundtracks I am drawn to Corigliano, Zimmer, or even Morricone.

By the way, I think it’s a great question, and I’ll have one answer someday soon?
