Does anyone have any ideas for a short movie to play for junior high bands while I have a substitute? I would like for my kids to have something fun to watch, instead of all the boring movies my school’s library has. We have 45 minute classes, so I know there aren’t a lot of movies that will fit into that time, but I’m willing to break it up into a couple of days. Any suggestions?

Blast! is a great mix of marching band and drama. It’s awesome music and very entertaining. I also use Stomp. Personally, I’d probably make a montage with Piano Guys youtube videos or even old cartoons like The Rabbit of Seville or Mickey’s Symphony Hour. I’m elementary school but my 5th graders seem to have the shortest attention span for movies. They couldn’t sit through an hour of Stomp so we did a half hour of that then switched to cartoons.

I also use Blast and Stomp. Blue Man Group is also great (although make sure you preview it, it’s not all 100% school appropriate), Fantasia and Fantasia 2000. Animusic (if you haven’t seen this look it up on YouTube.. awesome!). My kids have also really liked Singing in the Rain. I have (somewhere) worksheets to go along with Singing in the Rain and Animusic. If you’d like them I”m happy to share. Let me know and I can email them to you.
