Hello All. I am wondering if anyone knows of any kind of monthly/ bi-monthly magazine for kids (i.e. Time for Kids) that is specifically geared towards general music. I work in an urban school, and there is a limit on copies I can make, so I have been searching for something like this to use as a “change up” lesson plan. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh absolutely there is a fabulous magazine I’ve used before called Music Alive. http://www.musicalive.com/
It’s a little pricy, but I don’t think there are limits on how much you can photocopy. The articles connect popular music and more traditional styles / artists. The kids love that there is info about their favorite artists and we love that there is coverage of the curriculum. ….. There are also tons of printables on the website. Mouse over “Resources for Teachers” and click on “Music Alive Handouts.” Their composer / artist bio research sheet is excellent.

There is another publication called “Music Express” by John Jacobson, a fabulous composer. http://www.musicexpressmagazine.com/
I honestly have never used this, but have heard of it through colleagues.
