I teach K-8 general music, band and chorus. I have a carpet, and since the music room is built on slab concreet, it gets damp and musty. We have a dehumidifier, but it doesn’t work well. I’m getting the carpet replaced, but the question is, what should I get it replaced with? I don’t want the room too echo-ey, and I want it comfortable to sit on. Suggestions?

My room has a tile floor but I have rugs that I place around and have the students set on. The advantage of this is that the tiles will dry and rugs can be replaced easily if they get worn out. If the get wet just flip over that part or take outside and dry.
