Howdy! There doesn’t seem to be a Theory forum here, so I’m gonna reach out in dome of the other areas hoping to get a reply.

I’ve been assigned to teach HS Music Theory I for the first time in my career, and there is currently no curriculum or materials to use. I have been told that the purchase of textbooks will not be an option, but my district would be willing to spend money on technology. I was wondering if anyone has experience with teacher first year theory using iPads as a primary teaching tool. That seems to be something that the district will support.

Any ideas, any at all! Web resources, online class subscriptions, etc…etc…etc…

    Thanks!

Hi! First question….are you working with general population students with no music background? And how long will your class be?

The class meets everyday for the entire school year (42 minute class period). Students in grades 9-12, most of which will have some kind of music background (in band/orchestra/chorus/etc…) There could be a newcomer or two, but the class is geared towards folks with some kind of experience.

I have developed a curriculum that I use with my students that combine music theory and composing original music in a very progressive way. I’ve made the curriculum available for other teachers to use. There is a small fee associated with the web courses but the proceeds go towards allowing us to provide the program to NYC Public schools for free. You can learn about the program on my website here: http://www.yciw.net

Let me know if you have any questions!
