    Hi all,

I had the privilege of attending the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) show in Anaheim in January and was so excited about music education’s future when I left! They are about to launch their “ALL IN” initiative, to reach the other 80% of students–exactly the group of students to which this forum is dedicated.

Conference hall after conference hall filled with music gear, technology, and motivated musicians! How do we capture this excitement in our schools? What needs to change in order to bring in the garage bands and alternative groups that so clearly are active outside of our BCO traditional settings.

Perhaps start by reaching out to the local music stores and retailers in your area to support an after-school program. Some programs have piggy-backed with other after-school programs to add new dimensions to offerings. Let’s brain-storm on this and see if we can’t collect success stories that we can use as models for others to follow! I look forward to your ideas!

I was excited to read this, I really like the idea of partnering with local music stores. What a great way to build community and support music learning.
