Hello!
My school is considering changing how they include specialists in conferences. Currently, I have to choose 23 conferences to attend out of my 600+ students. While I appreciate being included in conferences, they ask specialists to just pop in for 5 minutes at the beginning or the end of the 20 minute conference with the homeroom teacher, which is rather awkward for all parties. I’m curious, what are the expectations for specialists at your school? Previously, I was required to be in the building in case a parent wanted to meet, but I got time to work in my room.
Thanks!
Hi
At our school the related arts teachers are expected to hold their own conferences. All parent teacher conferences are on the same day, so if I want to meet with the academic team and a parent, I can make that choice. We can attend all of the conference. I used a website called Sign Up Genius. I sent out an e-mail to all of my parents with a link to the website. Once on the website, they could sign up for a time to meet with me. I only met with the parents who requested a conference. The rest of the time I worked in my room.

Ugh, I don’t like that new idea. I like being available for any parent who come in … even if I can just catch them for a minute or two. Being included in only a few conferences is concerning and something I’d speak to the admins about.
