Percussion warm ups

I’d like my percussionists to get into some good habits. I’m a flutist, and when I sit down in band I blow air through my flute, practice some scales, long tones etc. What does a percussionist do? What I don’t want them to do is just start banging on the drums 🙂

The best option would be to have most of the percussionists warming up on mallet instruments.

When they are on drums I have them play “8 on a Hand” or a “Tap/Accent” exercise during long tones, and Rudiments during scales. We also use a technique book that has percussion parts written to accompany the winds and mallets.
