    Good morning everyone,

I’m looking for a Grade 3/3.5 concert band piece with good percussion parts. I have a 38 member Symphonic Band (Class B) with 6 VERY talented percussionists. As you know, things can sometimes feel a little slow for them back there while working with the winds, so I’d like to program a piece with good/interesting parts for them. The other pieces on my program are 1) Invercargill (Our opening March) and 2) Prairie Songs by Pierre LaPlante.

Thanks for any suggestions you may offer!

Look at a tune called Heartbeat Five by Gary Gilroy…..and don’t be scared of the key (it’s in Db). A great class B band could pull it off with no issues. If that’s a bit too much to chew, look at Regenesis by John Higgins….I believe it was on the Class C list 5 or 6 years ago. Plenty of percussion, and some you can add in the middle section. Since we’re both in Ohio, if you’d like to borrow Heartbeat, let me know…pretty sure I still have it in my library (can’t remember if I borrowed or not)

The other option is Foundry (not my favorite tune on the planet). If I’m not mistaken, it’s on the B list this year.
