My K-5 school is redesigning our report cards this summer, and I’m wondering what grading system is being used in other schools. Please let me know what you use and what you think of it. Thanks!
My magnet PreK-8 school uses a letter system for K-5 and numbers (now online grade book) for 6-8. The elementary grading system is a little different … we grade them on Cooperation and Effort with either E for exceeds standards, M for meets standards or B for below standards. (Standards as in objectives) (We give a grade for each student in Cooperation and Effort.) Honestly it’s not my favorite. My previous school in the same district used a simple (E)xcellent (S)atisfactory or (N)eeds Improvement system for K-5. Either way honestly it’s harder to grade the students based on data I collect per my teachers evaluation system. I understand that’s rather standard operating procedure for elementary school, but in this new era of data (DATA DATA!!) I personally don’t think it works.
