Anyone out there have a String Bass player in their band? I recently got one. I don’t have a tuba and the only other low instrument I have in my band is a baritone saxophone. My contrabass clarinet has been in the shop so I don’t have that right now either. I have trouble hearing the bass when we are all playing together. I’ve considered putting a microphone on it for the concert, but don’t really know that I want to do that.

Any suggestions? I already have it sitting on the outside edge of the band. Don’t really know what else to do.

Depends on your mic, but if you have a mic that you can put just in front of the f-holes and give it a little bump, there’s nothing wrong with that. I’ve done that before in a room with bad acoustics. At a low level, it doesn’t sound “miced” but will give it just enough to sound balanced.
