Hello all, I am looking for a killer musical for grades 2-5. I’d like for it to be holiday-themed but doesn’t HAVE to be. My parameters: 30-45 minutes long, must tell a story (not a revue), large cast, lots of energy (but hopefully some poignant moments, too) interesting production possibilities and of course, GREAT MUSIC. I have some very talented actors and singers.
What’s worked for you? Did the kids love it and the parents and teachers and principals, too? Let me know! Thanks!
I like anything from Plank Road Publishing. The songs are easy to sing and have great accompaniments. I find it easy to add whole group mvt. to the songs. Often I give each class their own song to showcase them, There are always high energy songs as well as a poignant ballad. The dialogue can easily be adapted to any size group and the stories impart a good lesson. . ..kindness, friendship, helping each other…
Most musicals are about $60.
Good luck
John Jacobson has done lots of great musicals. A Holiday Moosical and Home for the Holidays are two of my favorites that meet your criteria. The kids, parents, and administrators loved these when we performed them!
I just did Flakes this year and I have enjoyed A Beary-Merry Holiday as well. The kids were cute dressed as bears. 🙂 And of course John Jacobson’s music is great!
