Hi, folks!
I’m looking for a good education related job this summer. Camps, internships, whatever–it’s all on the table. I’m willing to travel, but only if I’ll be able to prepare for my recital while I’m at that location… This is a bit complicated, as I’m a percussionist. Does anybody have something specific to recommend?
I know that Blue Lake Summer Camp in Michigan offers positions as musicians, section leaders, counselors, and other affiliated music positions – where you work with campers and you also perform. You can find out more at http://www.bluelake.org
PAA (Performing Arts Abroad) is also looking to hire interns for this summer in Florence, Barcelona, and London! You can find more information at: http://www.performingartsabroad.com
I’m not sure of your location – but check with universities around your area, most of them have summer “camps” and workshops that need assistance and personnel.
However – on a more non-traditional route, I actually applied and auditioned to be a musician on a cruise line this summer. There are so many cruise lines that are hiring for entertainment, I highly recommend it. Most accommodations are included plus a summer salary – which is nice. And whenever you’re not working, you will have access to instruments to practice and perfect your recital rep. Good luck!

Also in Michigan is the infamous Interlochen Arts program. http://camp.interlochen.org/ I worked there one summer of college and it was an amazing experience. Not only was I able to practice, but I could take lessons from the professionals who came in for the camp. I also played in pit orchestras for extra cash, played with the faculty/staff band and I trained to be a lifeguard. It was so much fun, great on my resume (I got asked about it on many interviews), and I had great learning opportunities- not to mention the free concerts you got to attend as a “chaperone”!! I’m not sure the application deadline, but it’s worth checking out.
