I teach middle-school band, and we have an upcoming unit in school about architecture. I thought a nice elective would be to teach about the science and art of how we control sound in both the concert hall and in a general room with structure.

Does anyone know of teaching materials I could use that would address this subject? I’m thinking that after a couple of general lectures about sound and acoustics, we could figure how to modify our auditorium (which is really just a gym) and our all-school meeting room (a big, boxy room with a very high ceiling) to improve their acoustics.

This might be a little too detailed for middle schoolers to wade through, but you might be able to pull some good info out of it. http://asa.aip.org/classroom/booklet.html
