I am looking for a collection of short (8-16 measure) exercises that I could use with my high school and/or middle school orchestra to help develop reading skills and technique for playing in the upper positions. I would prefer something with appropriate fingerings already printed in the parts. My hope is to find something that I can use for 5 minutes or so each rehearsal and maybe cover one exercise a week. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Litichh322, If you have found any materials for your task, do you mind sharing? I noticed that this was posted two months ago.

    Hello,
I have found the Expressive Techniques for Orchestra to be pretty useful. It has a pretty good set of fingered three-octave scales, excercises and excerpts.

    Hello,

Hopefully you have found material by now. If not, Essential Technique for Strings (Essential Elements Book 3) Michael Allen, Robert Gillespie & Pamela Tellejohn Hayes – Hal Leonard Corporation, might work. It contains two octave scales, arpeggios, technique building exercises for shifting into higher positions, chorals and etudes. All fingerings are printed in the parts.

    Best of Luck
