RESPONSIBILITIES: The University of Puget Sound seeks a faculty member in music education who is an advocate for music in public schools and who is committed to preparing students to work in diverse communities. Teaching responsibilities include courses in music education at the undergraduate level in the School of Music, graduate-level classes in the Master of Arts in Teaching program in the School of Education, and diversity-related courses within or outside the School of Music that would enrich the Puget Sound curriculum. Supervision responsibilities include placing, observing and mentoring undergraduate and graduate music education students in local public schools with multi-ethnic student populations. Advising responsibilities include mentoring music education students as the faculty member overseeing the music education program.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in Music Education; ABD considered. Commitment to undergraduate teaching and liberal arts education. Research interests or professional experience pertaining to teaching diverse students, advocacy for public education or for the arts, or issues of equity, inclusion, and social justice in music education are desirable.

 

COMPENSATION: Assistant Professor; salary commensurate with education and experience.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC: An accredited institutional member of NASM, the School of Music (www.pugetsound.edu/music) offers a comprehensive program for undergraduates with degrees in performance, music education, music business, and the liberal arts. The School of Music is a vital part of campus cultural life producing over 140 events per year, including ensemble performances, recitals, stage productions, workshops, festivals, and master classes. It works in partnership with the School of Education in offering a 4+ 1 MAT program.

 

ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION (www.pugetsound.edu/education): The School of Education offers a Master of Arts in Teaching program, a Master of Education in Counseling program, and a minor in Education Studies. Students experience sustained clinical experiences in local public schools, mental health agencies, and/or community centers.
