Position:  Faculty – Director of Bands and Coordinator of Instrumental Studies

Open Rank; tenure-track dependent on candidate’s qualifications

Starting date: August 2018

 

Summary: Malone is seeking an energetic and student-focused colleague to serve as Director of Bands and Coordinator of Instrumental Studies. The successful candidate will bring energy to a small college instrumental program. S/he will have a background in Music Education and be able to work collaboratively with the School of Education and Human Development to support music education majors.

 

Responsibilities:

Direct the Pioneer Spirit Marching Band, the Malone Symphonic Band and other ensembles as appropriate. 

Recruit, advise and mentor students.

Teach courses in instrumental conducting, band methods and literature, teaching music in secondary schools, and marching band techniques

The normal faculty load is 12 credits per semester.

Engage in scholarship and community service.

Serve on departmental & institutional committees.

 

About the Department of Music:

The Department of Music at Malone University offers two degrees accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Malone offers the Bachelor of Science in Music Education and the Bachelor of Arts with three emphases (i.e., general music, music production, and music ministry). Other non-degree granting study options accredited by NASM include the Certificate in Piano Pedagogy, the Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy, and the flourishing pre-college Malone Preparatory Program that serves the Canton, Ohio community. The department currently includes four full-time faculty members committed to collegial and innovative pursuits of teaching, service and scholarship and twenty-eight adjunct music faculties who teach across the music curriculum.

Requirements

Masters in Music or Masters in Music Education required; Ph.D. in Music Education or DMA in Music preferred. Demonstrated success in inspiring students and leading a high school and/or university marching/symphonic band. Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentoring, professional development and scholarly research. Commitment to the Christian faith and a commitment to the integration of faith and learning in the academic discipline.
