As a national music honor society, it is important to have representation from across the nation. That’s why we have a state Tri-M Music Honor Society chairperson in every state and territory in the United States. To pull it all together, requires a National Chairperson. We are so pleased to introduce the newest Tri-M Music Honor Society Chairperson, Mr.Patrick Barnett from Des Plaines, Illinois.
Patrick S. Barnett is the Fine Arts Department Chair at Maine Township High School West in Des Plaines. He completed his undergraduate degree in Music Education at Northern Illinois University and the Masters Of Music Education degree from DePaul University. In 2007, he completed a Masters in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University. In addition to his duties at Maine West, he is currently the Director of Music and Organist for St. Pauls UCC in Downers Grove, Illinois. Prior to his appointment at Maine West, he was the choir director at Maine East High School for 19 years where he also directed the Variety Show. His choirs performed for then-First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, at the United Nations Center in New York, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Museum, and numerous community and civic organizations in Des Plaines and Park Ridge. The 2003 Chamber Singers were selected to perform at the Illinois Music Educator’s All State Convention. Prior to Maine, he taught junior high general music in Round Lake and Villa Park. An active performer, he has worked in a variety of situations including a rock and roll band, community bands, and various churches and community organizations. He is the past director of the Maine Township Chorale, a community choir whose make up includes alumni from the three Maine Township High Schools. He has directed the Illinois Ambassadors of Music Choir, which toured to Europe in 1998 and 2000. He has served on the board of the Illinois Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association as director of youth and student activities and as chair for the Chicagoland region. He has also served as Co-Chair of the IMEA District 7 Chorus and is presently the State Chairperson for the TRI-M Music Honor Society. In 2010, Mr. Barnett was elected Tri-M National Chair. An active clinician and adjudicator, Mr. Barnett is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, the American Choral Directors Association, and the American Guild of Organists. Mr. Barnett is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Education. Mr. Barnett lives in Lisle with his wife Lisa and their daughter Sophie.
