2024–30 Call for Nominations:
Journal of Music Teacher Education Editorial Committee Members

The Journal of Music Teacher Education (JMTE) seeks applications for four (4) new members of the Editorial Committee.

Duties begin July 1, 2024, and continue through June 30, 2030. The deadline for application materials is April 30, 2024.

Qualifications:

• Membership in the Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Any NAfME member who selects Teacher Education as a professional teaching area is an SMTE member.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship, as evidenced by active participation in the field of music teacher education.

• Expertise, professionalism, and time needed to carry out the duties of the position.
• Sustained interest and publication in music teacher education.
• Regular participation in national conferences of SMTE and NAfME.

Responsibilities: 

• Complete thorough and timely written reviews of manuscripts (approximately 2-3 per month) that reflect full consideration of all valid scholarly perspectives.
• Communicate regularly with the Editor on matters germane to the journal.
• Attend all Editorial Committee meetings held at SMTE and NAfME national conferences, as well as any virtual meetings scheduled by the Editor.

To self-nominate:

• Provide a letter confirming your interest in the position and your ability to fulfill the required responsibilities.
• Provide a complete CV that demonstrates your qualifications for the position.
• Obtain one letter of support, sent directly to the email address below, from a nationally recognized individual in music teacher education.
• Verify that your NAfME membership is and will be current as of July 1, 2022; lapses in membership may prevent you from advancing to the finalist round or being appointed.

Voting/Review of Nomination Dates: 

All nominees will be reviewed by the Editor and current Editorial Committee members in mid-May. The ranked list of finalists will be forwarded to the Executive Board of the Society for Music Teacher Education for review and endorsement. The National Executive Board of the National Association for Music Education will take official action on the recommendations and formal appointment letters will be mailed to new editorial committee members in late June.

Communication of Results:

All finalists will be notified of final ranked status and likely editorial committee appointments by May 24.
