2026 Call for Nominations
for Positions on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Music Teacher Education
Positions:
- Editorial Committee Member: Journal of Music Teacher Education
- Associate Editor of the Journal of Music Teacher Education (to become Editor 2028–2034)
Details:
- The Journal of Music Teacher Education seeks nominations of four (4) new members of the editorial review committee for a 6-year term beginning July 1, 2026, and continuing through June 30, 2032. The deadline for application materials is March 1, 2026.
- The Journal of Music Teacher Education seeks nominations for Associate Editor for an 8-year term. Duties begin July 1, 2026, and continue through June 30, 2028, at which point the Associate Editor would become the Editor from 2028–2034. The deadline for application materials is March 1, 2026.
Qualifications:
- Regular attendance at meetings of the Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE) biennial conference in Fall of odd-numbered years.
- Multiple publications of teacher education research (ideally at least one in the Journal of Music Teacher Education).
- Expertise, professionalism, and time needed to carry out the duties of the position. Applicants for the Associate Editor position need to include a letter from an Administrator verifying support (workload adjustment or editorial assistant for approximately 10 hours per week).
Responsibilities for Editorial Review Committee Members:
- Complete thorough and timely written reviews of manuscripts (approximately 2–3 per month) that reflect full consideration of all valid scholarly perspectives.
- Communicate regularly with the Editor on matters germane to the journal.
- Attend all Editorial Committee meetings held at SMTE and NAfME national conferences, as well as any virtual meetings scheduled by the Editor.
Additional Duties for the Associate Editor:
- Assist the Editor with final edits for accepted manuscripts
- Assist the Editor with tie-breaking decisions
- Work with the Editor on transition after two years
How to Self-Nominate:
- Provide a letter confirming your interest in the position and your ability to fulfill the required responsibilities.
- Provide a complete CV that demonstrates your qualifications for the position.
- Obtain one letter of support, sent directly to the email address below, from a nationally or internationally recognized individual in music teacher education.
- Verify that your NAfME membership is and will be current as of July 1, 2026; lapses in membership may prevent you from advancing to the finalist round or being appointed.

Voting/Review of Nomination Dates:
All nominees will be reviewed by the Editor and current Editorial Committee members in early April 2026. The ranked list of finalists will be forwarded to the Executive Board of the Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE) for review and endorsement. The National Executive Board of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) will take official action on the recommendations and formal appointment letters will be mailed to new editorial committee members in late June.
Communication of Results:
All finalists will be notified of final ranked status and likely editorial committee appointments by May 30, 2026.
