Advisory Committee Members: 

Music Educators Journal (MEJ) seeks applications for nine (9) new members of the Advisory Committee.

Description of Duties:

Advisory Committee members serve for two years with the possibility of reappointment to a second, consecutive two-year term. Committee members will be expected to provide approximately 3–6 written reviews per year. Duties commence July 1, 2026.

Preferred Qualifications for Advisory Committee Members:

  • Record of membership in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and other professional arts organizations;
  • Experienced active or former music educator committed to excellence in teaching, pedagogy, administration, or scholarship, as evidenced by active participation in the field of music education;
  • Emerging record of publication in MEJ or similar journals, including state MEA journals;
  • Able and willing to support the vision and values of NAfME’s Strategic Plan, particularly regarding support for diversity, inclusion, equity, and access.

Application Materials:

  • Cover letter briefly confirming your intent to apply and your commitment and ability to serve in this capacity;
  • A condensed resume outlining your qualifications for the position, including a list of any publications you have authored and relevant teaching experience (two-page maximum);
  • A statement of interest describing your career background, areas of content expertise, and qualifications for the position (500-word maximum);
  • A statement addressing your values concerning diversity, inclusion, and equity in music education (500-word maximum);
  • The name and contact information (email) for one (1) professional reference who is acquainted with your work as a music educator and can speak to your qualifications to serve in this specific capacity.

Editorial Committee Members:

Music Educators Journal (MEJ) seeks applications for ten (10) new members of the Editorial Committee.

Description of Duties:

Editorial Committee members serve four-year terms, with duties beginning July 1, 2026. Terms are non-renewable. Committee members will be expected to provide approximately 1–2 written reviews per month.

Preferred Qualifications for Editorial Committee Members:

  • Record of membership in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and other professional arts organizations;
  • Experienced active or former music educator committed to excellence in teaching, pedagogy, administration, or scholarship, as evidenced by active participation in the field of music education;
  • Established record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or other reputable forums on music or arts education;
  • Able and willing to support the vision and values of NAfME’s Strategic Plan, particularly regarding support for diversity, inclusion, and equity;
  • Able to attend Editorial Committee meetings during biennial NAfME conferences or as needed (virtual meetings are possible);
  • Previous service on a formal editorial committee desirable. Former MEJ Advisory Committee members are eligible to serve on the Editorial Committee.

  • One (1) letter of support from someone who is professionally acquainted with your work as a music educator. This letter should speak to your qualifications to serve in this specific capacity and should be included with all other materials in the application email.

Associate Editor:

The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) seeks applications for the position of Associate Editor/Editor-Elect of Music Educators Journal (MEJ). This individual will serve three (3) consecutive two-year terms, beginning with a two-year term (7/1/2026–6/30/2028) as Associate Editor, then a two-year term as Academic Editor (7/1/2028–6/30/2030), followed by a two-year term as Past Academic Editor (7/1/2030–6/30/2032). The Associate Editor will complete all responsibilities commensurate with membership on the Editorial Committee. In addition, the Associate Editor will assist both the Editor and the Academic Editor as requested. Members of the MEJ Editorial Board are eligible to apply. Self-nominations are acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications for Associate Editor:

  • Record of membership in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and other professional arts organizations;
  • Experienced active or former music educator committed to excellence in teaching, pedagogy, administration, or scholarship, as evidenced by active participation in the field of music education;
  • Established record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or other reputable forums on music or arts education;
  • Able and willing to support the vision and values of NAfME’s Strategic Plan, particularly regarding support for diversity, inclusion, and equity;
  • Experience on other NAfME editorial boards or similarly recognized publications in music or arts education;
  • The ability to deliver in-person reports and lead editorial committee meetings, typically held during NAfME national conferences.

  • Complete curriculum vitae;
  • A statement of interest describing your career background, areas of content expertise, and qualifications for the position (1,000-word maximum);
  • A statement addressing your values concerning diversity, inclusion, and equity in music education (1000-word maximum);
  • One (1) peer-reviewed article or other scholarly writing on music education praxis that illustrates knowledge of content appropriate for MEJ;
  • One (1) letter of support from someone who is professionally acquainted with your work as a music educator. This letter should speak to your qualifications to serve in this specific capacity and should be included with all other materials in the application email.
