Due February 1, 2014 The Executive Committee of the Society for Research in Music Education™ is seeking nominations for vacancies on the SRME Executive Committee, the Journal of Research in Music Education (JRME), and Update: Applications of Research in Music Education Editorial Committees SRME is now accepting nominations for the following: 1. Three positions on the SRME Executive Committee. Qualifications: Membership in the Society for Research in Music Education™ (SRME); documentation of sustained research activity; and a willingness to resign any other SRME national leadership post currently held, including memberships on Editorial or other Executive Committees or Chairmanships of Special Research Interest Groups (SRIGs). Responsibilities: Attend committee meetings, usually in conjunction with the biennial Music Research & Teacher Education National Conference; other duties as designated. 2. Eight positions on the JRME Editorial Committee. Qualifications: SRME membership; documentation of sustained research activity; and a willingness to resign any other SRME national leadership post currently held, including memberships on Editorial or other Executive Committees. Responsibilities: Attend Editorial Committee meetings, usually in conjunction with biennial Music Research & Teacher Education National Conference. Editorial Committee members must consider all valid research perspectives and provide in a timely manner thorough written reviews of manuscripts (approximately 2–4 per month). 3. Editor and Chair of Editorial Committee for Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, 2014-2020: Qualifications: SRME membership; a record of regular attendance at national NAfME conferences, and a willingness to resign any other SRME national leadership post currently held, including memberships on Editorial or other Executive Committees. Additional qualifications for Editor include documentation of sustained, high-quality research publication; experience indicating the ability to address issues of research and practice in music education; record of leadership within SRME; assurance to the Executive Committee of SRME that he or she is willing and able to volunteer the necessary time to carry out the duties of Editor, including leading the Editorial Committee meetings, usually held biennially in conjunction with the Music Research & Teacher Education National Conference. Required materials include a letter of nomination, two letters of recommendation from colleagues active in SRME, and a letter of support from the candidate’s institution regarding appropriate release time, resources, and clerical support/administrative assistant for the position (approximately 5 hours per week) for the duration of the term (6 years). Responsibilities: Read submissions and assign as appropriate to editorial board members, make decisions on results of manuscript reviews and conveys decisions to authors, represent the journal to the organization and field, work with SAGE staff to publish at least two issues per year, recruit authors and readership to the journal, report journal activity and progress biennially. 4. Three positions on the Update Editorial Committee: Instrumental Researcher, General Music Researcher, and Special Topics Practitioner, 2014-2020. Qualifications for all candidates: SRME membership; a record of regular attendance at national NAfME conferences, and a willingness to resign any other SRME national leadership post currently held, including memberships on Editorial or other Executive Committees. Additional qualifications for researchers include documentation of sustained research activity and publication. Additional qualifications for practitioners include a record of 3 years’ full-time teaching at the elementary or secondary level, with continuing interest and involvement in teaching activity that clearly establishes an expertise in the relevant topical division of Update. Responsibilities of board members: Attend Editorial Committee meetings, usually in conjunction with the biennial Music Research & Teacher Education National Conference. Editorial Committee members must consider all valid perspectives in research and practice and provide in a timely manner thorough written reviews of manuscripts (approximately 1–2 per month). The term of office for the SRME Executive Committee for the Update Editor and for the Editorial Committees is 6 years, beginning July 1 of the year of selection. Retiring members of the SRME Executive Committee or of either of the Editorial Committees may not be reappointed to any of these bodies until 2 years have elapsed since the end of their terms.
