Core Arts Standards Writing Teams Meet in Reston, Virginia.

Members of the NCCAS music standards writing team, including Scott C. Shuler, NAfME Immediate president (center), paused in their work on June 19.

Members of writing teams for the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards (NCCAS) met in the offices of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) in Reston, Virginia this week. Convening for the first time in person, teams representing music, the visual arts, dance, theater and media arts,  aim to produce the “next generation voluntary, research-based education standards.”

In addition to NCCAS teams, leaders of NAfME, the National Art Education Association and the College Board participated in highly-focused writing sessions.

Team members also participated in a live video broadcast on June 20. The session was titled “Embedding Enduring Understanding, Essential Questions and Corner Assessments into the New Core Arts Standards.” View the broadcast.
