A Society for Music Teacher Education Symposium
September 12–14, 2019, in Greensboro, North Carolina
The Society for Music Teacher Education, a society within the National Association for Music Education, is looking forward to hosting our eighth symposium September 12–14, 2019, on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Our goal with the symposium is to sustain professional conversations and collaborative action within the community of music teacher education.
Specifically, this year’s theme, Cultivating Perspectives and Practices, invites us to consider our roots as a professional association, common challenges, and unique experiences as music teacher educators. We continue to examine and celebrate the multiplicity of faces and spaces of music teaching and learning, and honor the stories that bond us as a profession. With this year’s symposium, we aim to support the professional development and scholarship of music teacher educators at all career stages. The work of Areas for Strategic Planning and Action is a particularly unique and active feature of the symposium.
The Society for Music Teacher Education welcomes and encourages participation in the symposium from music teacher educators, state and local fine arts supervisors, P-12 educators, state policy officials associated with certification, licensure, and school improvement, deans and directors of the arts, and students in music education (both undergraduate and graduate). More information, including registration, schedule and travel information is available on the website (smte.us).
