Kevin Vigil underwent seven brain procedures in 2007. His experience as a neurological patient led him to learn more about the brain. He will present an overview of brain functions that are applied in music making in hope that those who join this webinar will gain some practical tips for playing and teaching music.
Kevin Vigil holds degrees from Shenandoah University in Virginia, Yale University in Connecticut, and the University of Memphis in Tennessee. He was named the 2014 Shenandoah University Teacher of the Year and presented with a Sir Winston Churchill Commemorative Crown for his work in guitar education (2017). In 2020, he was chosen as the Joan C. Edwards Distinguished Professor in the Arts at Marshall University in West Virginia. His articles have been published in several national and international music journals, and he has presented lectures for the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) and the Philadelphia Guitar Society, as well as Yale, James Madison, Marshall, and Shenandoah universities. Kevin currently serves as president of the Virginia Guitar Directors Association, Chair of the NAfME Council for Guitar Education, and on the GFA Education Committee.
