About the Event

“Putting the FUN in Saxophone FUNdamentals” breaks down a warm-up routine covering essential tone and technical skills for beginner and intermediate students. Originally developed to cover the seven skills students should be working on daily, this lecture will cover easy-to-implement foundational exercises, with practical tips on how to teach young students and college methods students learning the saxophone. The learning objectives covered include breathing techniques, embouchure and mouthpiece formation, creating a characteristic tone, introduction to voicing and overtone production, technical exercises, vibrato production, and articulation.

Through a detailed explanation of each concept, attendees will have a firm understanding of how to help their students create exceptional sounds and be able to troubleshoot the common mistakes and pitfalls of young saxophonists. In addition to explaining the exercises and seeing excerpts of them, participants will be able to download PDFs to use and distribute as they see fit.
