About the Event

We can’t grow in a vacuum; we can’t learn in isolation. We must work together in our advocacy efforts to reach our common goal: provide high quality music education for every student. Together we will discover how to broaden your network, gain confidence in speaking with administrators, and make strategic connections within your community.

Jen Rafferty headshotJen Rafferty holds a B.M. in vocal performance and music education and an M.M. in music education from Ithaca College, New York.  She is also a certified Emotional Intelligence Practitioner and is pursuing her Ph.D. in educational psychology (Capella University). Throughout her career she has been involved in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), serving as the chair of the secondary classroom committee, member of the advocacy committee, and a vocal adjudicator. Her love for teaching and insatiable curiosity has led her to Empowered Educator, a professional development program that is a research-based, fully comprehensive training program focusing on the social and emotional well-being of the adults in schools. She has been featured in journals and magazines, and was on the TEDx stage with her talk, “Generational Change begins with Empowered Teachers.” She is the author of the book A Place in the Staff: Finding Your Way as a Music Teacher.
