The 5th International Symposium on Assessment in Music Education, Connecting Practice, Measurement, and Evaluation, will be held February 18-21, 2015 at the Williamsburg Lodge and Conference Center in historic Williamsburg, Virginia. This event is endorsed by the National Association for Music Education and the International Society for Music Education.
The symposium will host 120 presenters from 13 countries who represent 60 institutions, associations, and organizations from across the world. The sessions include keynote speeches, research paper presentations, panel discussions, workshops, and a poster session. There are five keynote speakers from four continents – Richard Colwell, USA; Scott Shuler, USA; Margaret Barrett, Australia; Pamela Burnard, United Kingdom; and René Human, South Africa.
We offer a special discounted early registration rate of $175.00 for teachers, administrators, and other school district personnel (a 47% discount from the regular rate). We have also scheduled six workshops for teachers on Saturday, February 21, along with paper presentations of interest to practitioners. An overview of the program is available here, and the map of the conference facility room locations is available here. We have hotel rooms available as well, with rates as low as $89.00/night. Information on transportation to Williamsburg can be found here. Because the registration rate increases to $225 on January 1, 2015, it is important to register early.
We encourage as many teachers and administrators as possible to attend the symposium, which is the only event of its kind in the world that focuses on specifically on assessment in music education. The focus of ISAME5 on teacher evaluation and the measurement of student achievement is an area of great interest to music educators across the world, and we would like to see attendees from every state.
Please share this announcement with your membership, and we look forward to welcoming many of you to Williamsburg in February 2015. If you have any questions, please email us at isame5@aa.ufl.edu.
Sincerely,
The ISAME 5 Co-chairs:
Timothy Brophy, University of Florida
Jeffrey Marlatt, Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University
Gary Ritcher, James Madison University
