Dr. Alicia Romero-Sardiñas is an accomplished choral music educator, conductor, and scholar whose career reflects a sustained commitment to excellence, access, and collaboration in music education. She currently serves as an adjunct professor and choral conductor of the University Singers at Florida International University, where she applies research-informed, student-centered pedagogies to collegiate choral instruction.

A first-generation American with Cuban immigrant heritage, Dr. Romero-Sardiñas brings a culturally grounded perspective to her work as an educator and researcher. She holds a B.S. in Music Education and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Florida International University, as well as an M.M.Ed. from Florida State University. Her scholarly interests include culturally responsive pedagogy, constructivist learning, music literacy development, teacher empowerment, mentoring, and community music. She has presented her research at the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA), the College Music Society International Conference, and the Fourteenth Conference on Cuban and Cuban American Studies.
In addition to her university appointment, Dr. Romero-Sardiñas serves as the Director of Education and Artistic Programming for Vocal Youth Miami, a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding equitable access to high-quality vocal music experiences for Miami’s youth. In this role, she oversees curriculum development, teacher training, and artistic programming that centers on young singers’ growth, creativity, and sense of belonging.

With more than two decades of experience in choral music education, Dr. Romero-Sardiñas is an active leader in the professional community. As a board member of the Florida Vocal Association (FVA), she has championed initiatives designed to uplift both students and educators. She supports emerging student composers through the Rising Choral Composer Award process. She also developed new recognitions for teachers in the first five years of their careers, as well as a mentorship award, both of which are integral components of FVA’s annual awards celebration. Her leadership reflects a commitment to fostering professional growth, celebrating excellence, and building a strong, collaborative choral community.

Dr. Romero-Sardiñas is also engaged as an adjudicator and clinician for assessments and honor choirs. She has a strong record of service and leadership, and a professional philosophy grounded in access, inclusivity, and the empowerment of both students and teachers.
