Andrea Donze Krein currently teaches DK-6th grade general music, choir, and modern band in a diverse suburban public school outside of Seattle. She has taught all levels and content areas from early childhood, elementary and middle school general, middle and high school band, undergraduate methods at Eastman, to elderly musicians in New Horizons ensembles.
Andrea is a certified Gordon Institute of Music Learning (GIML) teacher. She completed multiple certifications and courses in Gordon’s Music Learning Theory (MLT). Her Master’s of Music in Music Education degree from The Eastman School of Music was guided by Richard Grunow and Chris Azzara, where she focused on MLT in the instrumental classroom and helped edit “Jump Right In” the Instrumental Series. She has earned additional MLT certifications in early childhood and elementary general with Jen Bailey, Allison Reynolds, and Beth Bolton. She studied with Herbert Marshall at the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory focusing on MLT and other approaches.
Andrea is Orff certified and was an active member of the Cleveland Orff and Kodaly Associations before moving out West. She is currently active with the Northwest Kodaly Association and recently was a guest clinician.
Krein is the Washington State Representative of the NW Modern Band Teachers Association. She recently co-authored the first “Modern Band Handbook” which will be released from Oxford University Press late August.
A classically trained bassoonist, and both classically and folk-trained multi-instrumentalist, Andrea currently performs in an all women and non-binary Honk band in Seattle. She enjoys hiking, gardening, and traveling with family.
