Dr. Christina L. Svec is Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of Kansas, where she specializes in elementary/general and early childhood music education. She earned the PhD in Music Education from the University of North Texas and brings extensive experience as a music educator, having taught K–5 general music, early childhood music, church choirs, and community children’s choirs. Dr. Svec has served in leadership roles across numerous professional organizations, including the Gordon Institute of Music Learning, Organization of American Kodály Educators, and Iowa Music Educators Association. She currently serves as President of the Early Childhood Music & Movement Association and as past chair of the National Association for Music Education Early Childhood Music SRIG. She currently serves on editorial committees including Journal of Research in Music Education and the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education.

Dr. Svec’s scholarly interests include research methodology and pedagogy, music aptitude, assessment in childhood music education, and singing voice development. She is a contributing author to The Routledge Companion to Interdisciplinary Studies in Singing, Volume 1: Development, and her research has appeared in leading journals, including the Journal of Research in Music Education, Psychology of Music, International Journal of Music in Early Childhood, Contributions to Music Education, Visions of Research in Music Education, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, and Kodály Envoy.
