Dr. Craig L. Robertson is the Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Music at Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia. At VSU, he conducts the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, teaches applied voice and conducting, and leads the choral music education program. Under his direction, the VSU choral program has performed at numerous conferences and festivals across the United States such as the Maryland Music Educators Association In-Service Conference, College Music Society Regional Conference, Society for American Music National Conference, and the Virginia Music Teachers Association Conference.

A dynamic and in-demand guest conductor, clinician, and lecturer, Dr. Robertson regularly works with honor choirs, adjudicates festivals, and presents at music education conferences across the country. He has also lectured at colleges and universities nationwide.

Before joining the faculty at Virginia State University, Dr. Robertson was Director of Choral Activities at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Virginia, where he conducted the Baldwin Singers and the MBU University Choir. He also taught conducting, choral literature, and music education. During his tenure at MBU, he founded and served as Artistic Director for both the MBU Holiday Festival and the MBU High School Choral Festival. Additionally, he conducted the Staunton Choral Society and served as music director for several local musical theater productions.

Dr. Robertson brings extensive public-school experience to his work, having taught in multiple schools throughout Florida and Georgia. As a public-school choral director, his ensembles consistently received ‘Superior’ ratings at choral festivals and performed at venues nationwide. Notably, under his leadership, his middle school choir was featured at the 2011 Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference in Savannah, Georgia.

Dr. Robertson earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Colorado Boulder. He also holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Virginia State University and a Master of Music Education from Georgia State University. He is an active member of NAfME, VMEA, ACDA, VA-ACDA, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
