Gregory Springer is Associate Professor of Music Education and Director of the Center for Music Research at Florida State University. Prior to his appointment at FSU, he served on the music education faculty at the University of South Carolina and Boise State University. He was also a band director in the Pearl Public School District in Pearl, Mississippi. He values the opportunities to continue to work with students of all ages, having served as a clinician, honor band conductor, and adjudicator in Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky, Idaho, Indiana, and Mississippi.

Springer’s research interests include music perception, music performance evaluation, and music teacher education. He has presented research sessions at regional, national, and international conferences, and his research is published in refereed journals in music education, music therapy, and music psychology. He was also assistant editor of the book Orff Schulwerk: Reflections and Directions, which was published by GIA in 2013.

Springer currently serves as Associate Editor/Editor-Elect for Update: Applications of Research in Music Education and as Editor of Research Perspectives in Music Education. He has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Research in Music EducationJournal of Music Therapy, Contributions to Music EducationResearch Perspectives in Music Education, and Update: Applications of Research in Music Education. He has served as an ad hoc reviewer for other journals as well, including Psychology of MusicMusicae Scientiae, and PLOS ONE. He also completed two terms as editor of Florida Music Director, the official publication of the Florida Music Education Association.

Springer received the Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Kentucky as well as degrees in Music Education (MME and BME) and trombone performance (BM) from the University of Southern Mississippi.
