Darin Au is an active composer, performer, teacher and clinician. As an artist, he combines his formal classical studies with an extensive background in modern popular styles. His compositions for guitar ensemble are published by Productions d’OZ and Theodore Presser Company. He has composition, performance, recording and production credits in classical, reggae, rock, Hawaiian, and pop music. Having over 25 years in teaching, his philosophy is deeply rooted in his artistic experience and guides students to be skillful creators and collaborators in music. He has been a faculty member at Punahou School (Honolulu, Hawaii) for the last 23 years where he directs the Guitar Ensembles and teaches Creative Music Studio.

His students have advanced to earn degrees in classical and studio guitar performance and in songwriting and production. He served as Academy Music Department Head from 2005 – 2016. Darin currently serves as Western Division Representative on the NAfME Council for Guitar Education. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and holds an M.M. in Composition from the University of North Texas.
