Dr. Debbie Seykora O’Connell is currently a Professor of Music Education at Winston-Salem State University and the Program Coordinator for Music Education. She holds a B.M. in Music Education from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C., an M.M. in Music Education from East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., and a Ph.D. in Music Education from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Prior to Winston-Salem State University, she taught at The University of North Florida as a Visiting Professor of Music Education. Additionally, Dr. O’Connell has taught elementary, middle, and high school band and middle school orchestra in North Carolina.

Dr. O’Connell serves as the advisor to the WSSU chapter of the Collegiate National Association for Music Education. She is a member of the International Society for Music Education, National Association for Music Education, the North Carolina Music Educators Association, and the World Flute Society.
